
Nautical charts published by United Kingdom Hydrographic Office are official documents containing data on navigation, hydrographic, geodetic and hydrometeorologic elements of the situation in areas of oceans and seas and adjacent territories, and in aggregate are intended for navigational safety at sea.
The collection contains 6800 nautical navigation charts, specifically designed to meet the requirements to the leisure marimer and skippers.
General charts (1:5,000,000 - 1:1,000,000) are used for general navigation planning.
Route charts (larger than 1:1,000,000 and to 1:100,000 inclusive) used for navigation between ports.
Large scale charts (larger than 1:100 000 and less than 1:25,000) used for coastal navigation & narrow channels etc.
Sea plans (1:25,000 - 1:500) are used for entering ports, harbours, bays, roads, berths, etc.
